What is it about: It’s a prequel to the 2014 “Annabelle” and marks the fourth installment in “The Conjuring Series”. In this prequel the makers throw a detailed light on how it all started, what happens during that course forms the crux of the story directed by David Sandberg.
Why it’s disappointing: This could stay put for this movie.
What to watch out for: This is a genre where every maker go haywire in satisfying the audiences. Just the sound and special effects don’t add up to a horror film, it takes more than that to make it a SCARY WHILE. David Sandberg blew everyone’s mind in “Lights Out” and this one is no different. He manages to make the audience cringe and hide in spite of the obvious. He clearly knows the pulse of the target audience and hits them hard. The film does takes some time to pick up the pace, as it gets busy in settling the characters in their respective attires. And once they’ve settled, it dives into darkness of horror. Post which there no room to breathe.
The best part were the actors chosen to play in the film. They were equally good, but couple of them stood out in their performances, they are Talitha Bateman as Janice and Philippa Coulthard as Nancy, who churned out commendable performances.
When it comes to Horror, the makers have to concentrate a bit extra on their technical aspects. And with “Annabelle Creation” it was brilliantly derived. Cinematography by Maxime Alexandre was amazing, he had a nake to get to those darkest corners and engage the audience seamlessly. And then Michel Aller’s editing was brilliant. The eerie score by Benjamin Wallfisch was spooky.
And then there was VFX, which was once again I have to say brilliant and the sound design and mix was packed with full potential.
Verdict: David Sandberg did a fantastic job in making this film a strong node in the series. Which was not the case with its predecessor, which went quite weak. David made this one scarier and gave an authentic beginning to the “Annabelle”. Definitely worth a scare, and do catch it at a well-equipped Cinema to get spooked.
