What is it about: It’s an action thriller film based on the comic Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando Leon Gonzalez and Eric Skillman. The story follows a black ops mercenary who is hired to rescue an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka. The film is directed by Sam Hargrave and screenplay by Joe Russo.
The director being a former stunt double for Captain America and 2nd unit director of Endgame has left no stone unturned when it came to action.
With Netflix going all out in getting people’s attention they’re roping in bigger names by the day and the content seems to grow in large number on their platform breaking all the language barriers. Extraction is their recent release which has one of the Russo brothers doing the screenplay and Sam Hargrave helming the director’s cap. The director being a former stunt double for Captain America and 2nd unit director of Endgame has left no stone unturned when it came to action. It was intense and cut throat. The film dives into action right from the word go and keeps a steady pace for 117 minutes. I noticed few reviews and public reactions for this film and discovered a common complaint that it didn’t have sub plots for the characters in the film. It made me wonder, why would a film which revolves around just one extraction requires multiple sub plots polluting the fast paced action? I thoroughly enjoyed the film and have no qualms because it’s been a while since a full fledge action flick was presented to the audience. Sam Hargrave was on fire and did an amazing job.
Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake played the character with ease and had a great screen presence. And I was very excited and happy to see Randeep Hooda as Saju sharing equal screen space as Hollywood heavy weight. And now we know Randeep Hooda can kick some serious ass. Rudhraksh Jaiswal as Ovi Mahajan couldn’t have asked for a better debut and he did a commendable job. It was a little sad to see Pankaj Tripathi in a short stint. But that’s all was required of the character. Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan did a good job.
The cinematography by Newton Thomas Sigel just puts you right into the heart of the action. Peter B.Ellis and Ruthie Aslan were fabulous with their editing. Also it had an elevating background score to suit the action sequences.
Verdict: Sam Hargrave did perfect justice to the film and presented an adrenaline pumping action flick which keeps you entertained throughout. Extraction keeps it simple without deflecting from its core. If you’re in mood for some cut throat action then EXTRACTION won’t disappoint you. It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
