What is it about: It’s an action adventure film which is based on a Video Game series of the same title. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel.
Why it’s disappointing: The film is based on a stupendous video game of the same title. And that makes it a task to spin a story around it. Previously we have seen video games turn in to movies but most of them didn’t work. This film is at a brink of that too, it mostly doesn’t make sense and totally banks on the VFX and action sequences.
The characterization was not up to the mark which makes the lead character quite hallow. And so were the supporting characters. The film had a high production value. But was lost to a weak screenplay which doesn’t hold the interest of the audience.
This being the first film, which is going to be a franchise for sure with two more films in addition to this. Honestly it should have laid a strong foundation, but it fails to do so. Hoping for a better sequel to satisfy the game enthuse who were craving for a solid film.
What to watch out for: Went in with great expectations, but there aren’t many points to watch out, other than its spectacular VFX which was perfectly matched by Adam Arkapaw’s cinematography and was sharply cut by Christopher. The sound was great which complimented the visuals. And of course the action was slick and few stunts were breath-taking matching the video game, which did draw in applause from the audience.
Michael Fassbender tried his best to carry this on his shoulder, but poor characterization lets him down. And so was the case with Marion Cotillard.
Verdict: Justin Kurzel couldn’t live up to the image the video game had. He was staggering with narration which was depended on VFX. The actors looked pretty lost in their respective characters. If you’re a fan of the Video game, you might be disappointed. But if you are fan of action flicks, then catch this one you might like it.
