What is it about: The movie revolves around few questionable facts of the regulations followed at Schools in our country. It revolves around a student and a teacher who in an unfortunate incident get tangled in a struggle for life and death, Integrity and Love. How this situation brings the society around come together forms the crux of the story.
Why it’s disappointing: Let’s just leave this section at rest for this movie.
What to watch out for: Kuttram Kadithal lays quite a few issues which our system at school is still contemplating on, there are no set rules, if there are they don’t follow them religiously. As our country runs on ignorance which leaves few people in despair paying the price for it. Bramma (Director) did a great job on throwing light on this issue and handled it very delicately in all aspects of the sentiments.
The main USP of the movie was its issue which went well hand in hand with the characters played, the main character which digs up the issue played by Master Ajay (Chezhiyan) was remarkable, you will see him for a short while on the screen but he gets registered in your mind with his un usual behaviour as a kid who stands out in the crowd. Then comes Radhika Prasidhha (Merlin) who played the role of the teacher in KK, she may not be the best of actress but she pulls together a performance which is convincing and touching at places. Sai Rajkumar (Manikandan) who plays the husband of “Merlin” did a commendable job. ‘Kulothungan’ Udayakumar as Thanikachalam was great and another notable performance in KK is Pavel Navageethan as Udayan he dished some realistic performance which added the icing on the cake. There was this mother character played by Sathya Sachu, she hardly has any dialogues but her body language and expressions makes it more the words she could speak.
These characters form a great deal in taking this story forward with great intensity. “KK” brings you to a reality which is known to millions, but what is being done to eradicate is the million dollar question? In this movie it may be accidental but there are cases where it’s done deliberately. The movie touches few points which makes you think, it pricks you right there. Bramma was very cautious in unfolding the segments in the movie, which keeps a good flow throughout.
Bramma does imply few things through his nake for storytelling, like the scene where Merlin looks at the rear view mirror of a motorbike and finds the Symbol of Christ reflecting in it, which changes her mind, these are delicate sentiments which were handled very well. While the victims of the incident are trying to cope up, how the media shows its ugliness was portrayed well.
The movie was well supported with great technicians, cinematography by Manikandan was realistic which was edited well by CS Prem. The score by Shankar Rengarajan was subtle and well suited.
Verdict: “Kuttram Kadithal” will be among the best movies of 2015, and it does justice to the National Award. Brilliant unseasoned actors with great technicians hit you hard in the end wondering why we are still pretending to be blind.
