What is it about: It’s a remake of classic “Hero” back in 1983 directed by Subhash Ghai which had Jackie Shroff in the lead and it was his debut. Hero is a simple love story which involved all the elements required for an entertainer back in 80’s, which is a young rebel (Sooraj) who works for political personality as a henchmen, happens to do anything asked for as he’s indebted to him. With that said he’s given a task to kidnap the heroine (Athiya Shetty) daughter of an IPS officer, in order to teach him a lesson to withdraw from the case against the politician (Aditya Pancholi). During this modus operandi Sooraj falls for Athiya and love sparks, bringing them at a crossroad of love, betrayal, loyalty and family.
Why it’s disappointing: The original was a classic and was a great hit at the box office, the lead pair had a great chemistry but this remake lacks that chemistry between the lead pair. Nikhil Advani who is a seasoned director in Bollywood and have given blockbusters disappoints you gravely with poorly written screenplay which he had changed a bit from the original. Sooraj is very wooden when it comes to expressing himself, he’s a good looking lad with 6 pack but lacks the moolah for an actor, which he should work on seriously if not will be lost. The music was average doesn’t register at all with the movie. The whole movie just looked like a show reel for 2hours and odd for the star kids. If the whole intention was to introduce them they could have come up with a better movie, with this the ulterior motive dies in vain.
What to watch out for: Athiya Shetty seems like a good actor, but annoying spoilt rich brat has been showcased a million times in Bollywood. She should do something better to establish herself as an actress. Cinematography by Tushar Kanti Ray was good and was backed up with crisp editing by Ritesh Soni. Other than this there’s nothing left for you to say good about it.
Verdict: Nikhil Advani fails to raise a Hero which had triumphed the 80’s with elan and was a classic remembered till date.
