Filmfare Awards 2016 Nominations
Filmfare is known as the oldest, most respected and most prestigious awards in Indian cinema. It is considered as Indian Oscars. In the past it has shown some serious justified nominations and winners. But as they went further, due to television rating points (TRP) and commercial aspects, everyone has blamed them for their unjustified and biased nominations and results.
When was the last time actors like Irfan khan, Nawazuddin Siddique, Monoj Bajpai or Randeep Hooda were awarded? Comparing them with Oscars is not enough, you must motivate your talent by awarding them irrespective of their commercial value but completely on merit and performance. This will make sure that you are actually competing with Oscars, Bafta and Golden Globe. Let’s review 2016’s nominations and their loop holes.
Shahrukh Khan has been nominated for Dilwale which is a critically panned film and actors like Akshay Kumar for Baby, Irfan Khan for Talvar and Jazbaa and Ajay Devgn for Drishyam are left without being nominated.
Sonam Kapoor has been nominated for Dolly ki dolly, Are you serious? Kalki Koechlin in Margarita with a straw and Richa chadda in Masaan has done some outstanding roles.
One of the most remembered character from 2015 was of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Chand Nawab in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and he is not nominated for that film. Anupam roy has been nominated for Piku in best music category and films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and ABCD 2 are not nominated even after giving huge chart busters.
With all this we can only hope that Filmfare gets back to its older routine of awarding the deserving talents as once Om puri, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher has received it despite being non commercial actors.
