What is it about: It’s a crime thriller, which revolves around 4 individuals, how one unfortunate incident gets them tangled in to grave issues forms the crux of the story directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
Why it’s disappointing: This can stay put for this film.
What to watch out for: Just when you have started to lose hope on Kollywood films, comes a new talent who surprises you with a film well made. So was the case with “Maanagaram”. Director Lokesh, did a great job in weaving the story around fewer characters. And he did an impressive job in establishing the characters in the beginning of the film placed in a wine shop, where you get to see peoples from different walks of life.
The beauty of the film was its cast, which was well picked and was performed to their best. Sundeep Kishan and Sri were equally good in their respective roles and played it to their best.
Then there was Regina Cassandra, who had a short stint in the film. But did it with great diligence and was a commendable one.
The supporting cast was exceptional, all of them were religiously performers. And one character which stands out is Ramdoss who is also known as Muniskanth, did a hilarious job. He makes you laugh hard, literally the rolling on the floor one. And then his footsteps were followed by former Temple Monkey’s fame Sha Ra, whose character got registered well with a commendable performance.
The film had a great technical team. The cinematography was at its best by Selvakumar, and the editing was crisp by Philomin. The music and background score by Javed Riaz was gripping. And that was well enveloped by good sound design by Sachin and Hariharan from Sync cinema.
Verdict: Lokesh Kanagaraj, did a fine job in etching a gripping thriller, which runs at its own pace establishing perfectly each and every character. The film doesn’t dull out at any point, keeping you at the edge of the seat. Definitely worth a watch, don’t miss this one.
