What is it about: This film is about two individuals Badrinath and Vaidehi played by Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Who fall in love and how their love gets tangled in to the culture system of dowry forms the crux of the story directed by Shashank Khaitan.
Why it’s disappointing: In spite of having many instances where this film could have performed well, it loses the credibility due to logical loop holes. And it blindly follows the template with no direction. The screenplay is quite weak, doesn’t hold the seriousness it intends to preach. This factor makes this film a weak one. And it totally depends on its lead characters. It’s not that the previous film was a great one, but it had an essence which was quite missing in this film.
What to watch out for: This film runs through its runtime due to its lead pair, who were great and had a convincing chemistry. And this made this film a bearable one, as their comedy timing was impeccable. Varun and Alia make a strong case and gave their best to the film.
It had a potential supporting cast, among which Sahil Vaid, shines through with a good performance, who too had great comedy timing. Which was followed by Yash Sinha, Sweta Basu, Aakanksha Singh & Sukhmani Lamba completing the ensemble.
The film had delectable colours and was perfectly captured by Neha Parti and was crisply edited by Manan Sagar. Music by various artists was racy and peppy, so was the background score by John Stewart.
Verdict: Shashank Khaitan, manages to sail through the clichés and loop holes. Fails to grab the attention it deserves, and blindly follows the cast’s capability. Still the comedy was honest and kicks in genuine laughs, making it worth a watch.
