What is it about: It’s a story about a corrupt cop, who has a change of heart later, what happens during the process forms the crux of the story directed by Sai Ramani.
Why it’s disappointing: Since 2017 has started there isn’t one good film produced by Kollywood to the audience. Back to back films are bombing, but the success is celebrated on newspapers and posters. One side we have distributors crying their losses, whereas on the other side we have producers celebrating success of the film the very second day of release.
Kollywood, is losing its face value on content driven cinema. And is falling prey to extreme commercialism of it. Director Sai Ramani is a clear example of what’s wrong the Tamil Film industry at the moment.
The film has Lawrence in the lead playing a cop, and his character is shown in a poor light of corruption and it glorifies it shamelessly. And showing a Police officer stalking a reporter in pretence of love, is clearly demeaning the purpose. He’s being called now “Makkalin Superstar”, but as an actor he couldn’t do justice at any point. The MASS bug has smitten him and have fallen prey to it, failing to perform and in action scenes, they go beyond superheroes.
Director Sai Ramani tried to preach and throw light on women’s safety and have voiced issues, but he totally forgot that there’s a women in their film playing the lead role. Where the director has forgotten that Nikki Galrani has a face, but the focus runs straight on her naval portion all the way, right from intro. A shameless contradiction which defeats the purpose. And in one scene, Raghava Lawrence asks Nikki why she doesn’t wear modern dresses as she’s a reporter. To which Nikki replies, she respects culture and tradition and prefers “Pavaadai Dhavani” to modern dresses. But that “Pavaadai Dhavani” image was tarnished with low glamour. Unfortunately Nikki was used as a prop in the film rather an artist.
The villains played by Ashutosh Rana and Vamsi, were merely chosen for their North Indian looks, as Kollywood is running out of villains.
The music by Amrish was below average and the annoying background score runs for 2 and half hours.
When the film is made this bad, doesn’t matter if the cinematography was good or editing was crisp. They both get lost in this deluded film.
What to watch out for: An utter waste of time and money.
Verdict: Sai Ramani, seems like in a confused state. He was trying preach a social message and was at the same time trying to make a commercial thriller. And these both clash so badly that, the audience are left to endure a film, which doesn’t have logic nor story. It runs on its own mind. Definitely not worth a watch, save yourself a movie.
