What is it about: It’s a horror film which ponders on the myth of “The Bye Bye Man” who appears if his name is called upon. The film is directed by Stacy Title.
Why it’s disappointing: The film lays down a good plot which very much reminds of you of the film “Boogeyman” back in 2005. This film here has something similar to it with a back story supporting why it is here. But the back story does explains how it gets involved in the peoples lives, but doesn’t sheds light on what is “Bye Bye Man” and how it all started.
As it is the film had nothing new to offer, and the actors in the film were quite average nothing to hold the story strong. The performances were meagre and didn’t have a grip on any character, this doesn’t invest the audience in the film.
The cinematography by James Kniest was quite damp which had a B grade feel to the film, and the VFX was quite down market.
What to watch out for: Director Stacy, tries her best to catch you off guard with scaring techniques at couple of places, which does raise your hair, but that’s it nothing else. Those two moments give you a hope thinking you’ll have something interesting coming your way, but unfortunately nothing. The editing by Ken Blackwell was quite sharp, which kept the film on it toes.
Verdict: Stacy Title couldn’t make this creepy “Bye Bye Man” scare you enough. It tries its best, but fails more than it intended to. Still you can catch this one, if you have nothing else to watch on screen.
