What is it about: It’s a sci-fi romantic thriller, where a mechanic and a writer wake up much earlier than they should on a space trip to a new settlement called “Homestead”, what happens post that forms the crux of the story directed by Morten Tyldum.
Why it’s disappointing: The only thing which this might lose out to the public is its pace, which is quite slow. And that might not work well with the general audience.
What to watch out for: It’s really hard to imagine something like what director Morten had etched out in the name of “Passengers”. A wild thought which someone would not imagine in their wildest dream. A travel decided for 120 years and you pass through that in a long sleep. The worst what could happen is waking up earlier than you’re supposed to. Well that’s what sums up in the film, an interesting theory.
The film had two central characters, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence among who the story revolves. Chris Pratt delivers a solid one which was apt for the character Jim Preston. And there was Jennifer Lawrence who can perform anything hands down laid in front of her. She did a commendable job. Many would say the chemistry didn’t work out, but I can only say the chemistry was in the right amount required for the scenes involved.
Adding to that we get we had a witty Michael Sheen and a fitting Laurence Fishburne.
The beauty of the film lies in its VFX, because the entire film was dependant on that. And weaving a screenplay around that is a tough task, which was neatly derived by the director Morten Tyldum.
The cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto was great and was in sync with the VFX. And that was precisely cut by Maryann Brandon. Music by Thomas Newman was quite gripping.
Verdict: Morten Tyldum does a fine job in spinning a screenplay around minimal characters with spectacular VFX. Most definitely the film astounds you at few intervals giving you a delectable experience. Definitely worth a watch and please do catch it at a well-equipped cinema.
