What is it about: It’s about an aspiring actor, who goes to length of disguising himself as a female to attain a role in a film. And while he’s at it he crosses path with Keerthy Suresh and falls in love with her, what happens next forms the crux of the story directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan.

Why it’s disappointing: Unfortunately there’s a lot present in this film, which is been disappointing. I knew the movie will fail on logic big time, but when that factor is totally ignored it becomes chaotic. And that’s what happened with “Remo”. The film had a potential for an amazing rom-com and could have joined the league of “Avvai Shanmugi”, but it lacked the humour which was required to support the character of “Regina Motwani” a.k.a “Remo”, and that character was not explored or used to its potential.

The screenplay was a dud and was at a very relaxed and ignorant pace, which really tires you out in the second half. The effort was missing which a debutante should have put in making his first impression. References of successful actors and infusing those dialogues and getting applause is something, which can be done by anyone. Those are heard and appreciated already.

There were one too many flaws, which takes your interest away. And the major one was the overly digitalized look of “NURSE GET-UP”. PC Sreeram have doubled his job as a make-up artist, which is so evident. And all the frames look so hued and coloured that it lacks a naturalist feel, which tires your eyes. Now I get it why a cinematographer of a calibre of PC Sreeram was taken in to this team. The film mostly looks like a photograph which is heavily photo-shopped.

Resul Pookutty was not heard anywhere, as this was a commercial pot boiler and Resul’s touch was lost in the mass of a sound.

Keerthy Suresh has a potential but she’s been acting a lot, soon she has to start to perform. Hope she will get her break soon, which will bring out the performer in her.

Editing was quite sloppy and we can’t blame the editor Ruben on this, he did the cuts which were laid on his table.

What to watch out for: What makes REMO watchable is the lead played by Sivakarthikeyan, he have proved now that a film can be carried forward on his shoulders. And he did that with a duality of the roles and was pretty convincing. And everyone is surprised the fan base he’s getting and is very sure of him moving to the next level soon. His comic timing was good which was well supported by Sathish, Rajendran and Yogi Babu.

Then comes the music and background score by Anirudh, which supported the performance of Siva in all manner and became one of the highest point in the film adding a good face value to it.

Other than these two factors, there’s nothing which Remo could offer in terms of entertainment.

Verdict: Bakkiyaraj Kannan’s debut was impressive market wise which was well packaged by 24AM Studios, which makes him a decent filmmaker. But as a story teller he needs to work on. REMO might work just because of its lead, with great touch up by PC sir. Can watch for Sivakarthikeyan.
