What is it about: It’s an adaptation from the stupendous mobile game “Angry Birds”. The film captures the life of flightless birds on an island who are invaded by the huge herd of pigs. How they fight back to claim their land forms the crux of the story directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly.
Why it’s disappointing: This could stay put for this movie.
What to watch out for: Adaptation is something Hollywood has mastered and have evolved more than any other Film industry in the world. This one is a pure example of such adaptation. A mobile game, which is favoured by the people from 6-60 have turned in to animated feature film. I’m no fan of the game but my friends and family show immense interest in it. But the movie was enjoyable.
The important characters from the game were etched well in to 3D characters, looking at which the kids and the grown-ups jump with excitement. The screenplay was spun with great joy by Jon Vitti, who kept the essence of the game when it was played out as the movie. It was perfectly explained how things came in to action in the game. As game has limited capabilities, whereas an animated film can go beyond borders.
The humour was perfectly infused which covered all the age groups, it wasn’t too mature neither too daft. To be precise was at a perfect level for everyone to enjoy, still people laugh at the jokes of Looney Tunes sort and “The Angry Birds” had that element present in it.
The VFX was great and 3D was spectacular, which takes you inside the film with great depth. The sound was perfectly matched with crisp editing. The characters were backed with great voices, which made this one more interesting. It includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Bill Hader & Peter Dinklage.
Verdict: Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly did a fine job for their debut as directors and revived the game in to a thoroughly enjoyable animated feature film. Definitely worth a watch, please take your little ones too. And enjoy laughing with them.
