2.0 Chitti is back: Lyca productions, a Chennai based company has roped in S. Shankar to direct a sequel to 2010 Robot. The sequel has been named as Robot 2.0 for hindi version. As per reports, the company has assigned a mammoth budget for the film which is Rs.350 crores.
Rajnikanth is back as Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti the “robot”, in addition Akshay Kumar has been added to play the role of a villian in this film. Female lead has been assigned to Amy Jackson. A. R. Rahman will produce the songs for the film. As per reports negotiations did take place with Kamal Hasan, Amir Khan and Vikram for additional roles but there was no positive results. Later on Arnold Schwarzenegger was roped in to play the role of villian, for which he actually agreed for a handsome amount of money on the first place but later on stepped back from the project due to content related issues. At last Akshay Kumar was selected for the role.
Visual effects specialists John Hughes and Walt Jones are selected to make 2.0 bigger and better while special costumes will be designed for the film. Stunt choreographer Kenny Bates will take care about action scenes while Legacy effects company will handle the animated scenes and graphics. Grand launch of the film was suppressed due to Chennai floods, phase one of the film has been already done as per schedule.
Film is all set to release in 2017. Enthiran did a whooping business of Rs. 2.79 billion globally and managed to become the highest grossing Indian film of 2010 and South Indian film of all time. If content, direction and overall appeal satisfies the demands of current norms and standards then it has all the ingredients to become the highest grossing film of Indian cinema.
